In 1865 and 1866, black codes were enacted which was designed to decrease the rights of the blacks regardless of the fact that they were to now free. The true purpose of the black codes was to keep the blacks down economically, socially and politically. Black codes was slavery in a different name and it was the attempt from the whites to recreate slavery. It’s a turning point in America because racism is still very common in modern society even though it’s not as direct and apparent from the past but it’s happening with blacks being segregated and deprived of opportunities. The Black codes are defined as laws passed mainly in the rural areas of Southern states aimed at restricting cicvil kiberties and rights if African-American population. The Codes were passed after the American Civil War and Recintruction attempted to control the emplymment opportunities
